This website is two in one, or one in two. There is a students' site which has the news in English. The stories are rewritten in easy English and are divided into different catagories. There is also a teachers section called Pencil Village which is quite handy, but you do have to register to get full access.

This website is produced by Channel 4 and is part of their learning suite of sites. It focuses on English language and literature and has some wonderful interactive exercises on it. There are games to practice punctuation, a wonderful game called synonym shoot out and lots of animated poems. They also have a useful teachers' page. The site is designed for native speakers but still has lots to offer ELT students of all levels.

This website is a great resource for anyone interested in using drama in the ELT classroom. There are links to some well written resources, as well as lists of drama in ELT related texts and and some really useful links to other similar sites. Well worth a look.

This is the website of a culturally based magazine. It's very US focused , but there are some wonderful photographs as well as fiction, interviews, articles and poetry. There is also a good teachers section that has recommended activities for exploiting the materials.

This link takes you to a website that is handy if you are worried about knowing grammar rules. Not exactly exciting stuff, but useful if you want to check up on stuff and quite easy to navigate.

This link takes you to a website that has been created by the publisher Mary Glasgow Magazines. The site has a collection of free games, magazine articles and lesson plans. For some of the lesson plan stuff you need to register and give an email address but it is still free and you get email up dates when there is new material to download.
Clipart for busy teachers
This link takes you to a website that has links to a huge collection of really useful pictures and visuals that can be used for teaching purposes in class. They can be copied and pasted into Word documents and resized etc. Be sure though to honour the copyright restrictions that apply to the particular sites that are linked to.
School Discovery Puzzlemaker
This link takes you to a website that has some useful tools for creating teaching materials. There is a range of tools for creating crossword puzzles and other word games. You just type in the content you want, click a button and it creates a printable puzzle. If you have a live connection you can even get students to create their own to test each other's vocabulary.

You just type in the content you want, click a button and it creates a printable puzzle. If you have a live connection you can even get students to create their own to test each other's vocabulary.

You can download complete lesson plans and materials to print up and use with your classes, as well as teaching tips and activities to try. For those of you with higher level classes there is also a feature called BritLit which has short stories with audio and teaching materials to exploit them. The site is updated every week so it's well worth visiting on a regular basis.
